Embarrassing Bodies – Testicular Cancer Awareness Episode (Summary)

In this episode of Embarrassing Bodies, Dr. Christian Jessen focuses on raising awareness about testicular cancer. Uniquely British in approach, the show features real people willing to talk about—and show—intimate medical issues to help educate others.

Dr. Christian visits a rugby team after a match, meeting all 15 players in their locker room. He explains that he wants to teach them how to check themselves for signs of testicular cancer. To make the exam easier, he asks them all to take a hot shower first.

The team strips down and heads into the communal showers, with the camera filming the process in a straightforward, non-sexual manner typical of the show. Afterward, the players return to the locker room, each wrapped in a towel.

Dr. Christian then asks for a volunteer to demonstrate the exam. A slim blond player named John steps up, to applause and cheers from his teammates. He sits beside the doctor and removes his towel, prompting more good-natured laughter.

Dr. Christian reassures John—and the rest of the team—that while the idea of a testicular exam might seem awkward, it’s a quick and painless process. He puts on gloves and begins the examination, explaining to the others how they can perform the same check themselves. He points out that it’s normal for one testicle to be slightly larger than the other—something John hadn’t realized before, but laughs about along with his teammates.

Inspired by John's example, Dr. Christian encourages the rest of the team to remove their towels and begin examining themselves. The atmosphere remains supportive and educational.

Three of the players believe they might have found lumps. Dr. Christian examines each of them and thankfully confirms that there’s nothing to worry about.

The episode wraps up with a message encouraging all men to regularly check themselves and seek medical advice if they notice anything unusual.
