Henry Beechwood, the football coach here in this small town. We’re a tight-knit group, and I’ve been coaching these guys for years. When Dr. Ross Jennings showed up — a newcomer trying to take the place of the old doctor — I wasn’t sure what to think. People here trusted the old doc, and they weren’t exactly welcoming to Ross. Still, I figured maybe Ross could help out the team, so I decided to give him a chance.

At a party one night, I met Ross. He seemed decent enough, eager to prove himself. So I said, “Hey, come to the gym tomorrow. I’ve got a job for you.” I could tell he was excited — probably relieved to finally get some patients.

The next morning, I gathered the team in the locker room. They’re all about 20 years old, full of energy and nerves. I raised my voice, making sure they got it loud and clear: “Good day, Broncos! Listen up! You’re all going to get a medical exam today. The doc needs to check your bodies, so in one hour, I want you here in just your underwear. If anyone shows up dressed, 50 push-ups — naked! Got it?” They muttered their agreement, probably wondering what I was up to.

Honestly, I wanted to make sure they took it seriously. No half-measures. This is about their health and our season.

When Ross showed up, I stood in front of the team, watching them lined up side by side in their briefs. I could see some were uncomfortable, but I wasn’t going to back down. “Alright, Broncos! The doc’s here — get ready! The doctor wants to hear you cough!”

Ross went down the line, checking each guy carefully. When he asked one to drop his underwear to his ankles, I kept a close eye — making sure the boys stayed disciplined. This isn’t about embarrassment; it’s about trust and teamwork.

I could tell Ross was trying to be professional and respectful, and honestly, I respected that. These kids need a doctor who’s going to look out for them, not just some outsider trying to muscle in.

When the last guy finished, I clapped my hands and said, “Alright, all dressed now! Let’s play ball!” The relief on their faces was obvious.

Watching them suit up, I thought, Maybe Ross is the right guy after all. Maybe this town’s ready for a little change.

This was just the beginning.

Want me to write it from Ross’s perspective next?
